Apprenticeships
South Farnham Education Trust supports apprenticeship programmes and has played a leading role in the creation and development of the Teacher Apprenticeship standard. The Trust have chaired the national Trailblazer Group of employers and advisors. SFET are currently working alongside colleagues at the Department for Education to review the Postgraduate Teacher Apprenticeship and launch an undergraduate employment-based route into teaching, the Teacher Degree Apprenticeship (to start September 2025).
The Teacher Apprenticeship was launched in September 2018 and this gives schools an opportunity to use apprenticeship funding (the apprenticeship levy) for training. Apprentice teachers will have to meet the same statutory requirements for entry as all other ITT programmes and are assessed against the Teachers’ Standards. The apprenticeship route combines paid work with on and off-the-job training. QTS will be awarded to successful apprentices.
The Teacher Degree Apprenticeship was launched for recruitment in October 2024 with the first cohort starting in September 2025. This 45-month programme will combine paid work with on and off-the-job training. QTS and a degree will be awarded to successful apprentices following end point assessment.

Training Apprentices
South Farnham SCITT is on the Apprenticeship Provider and Assessment Register (APAR) and trains new teachers through this route. The first cohort of seven apprentices started in 2018 and included the UK's first end-point assessed apprentice on this new standard. The programme has grown each year since then.
