Key Information

Apprenticeships

South Farnham Education Trust supports apprenticeship programmes and has played a leading role in the creation and development of the Teacher Apprenticeship standard. Sir Andrew Carter (CEO) chaired the original Trailblazer Employers Group and Claire Harnden (Deputy CEO) chaired the Postgraduate Teacher Apprenticeship group. SFET are currently chairing the Teacher Degree Apprenticeship Trailblazer Group and work alongside colleagues at the Department for Education to design an undergraduate employment-based route.

The Teacher Apprenticeship was launched in September 2018 and this gives schools an opportunity to use apprenticeship funding (the apprenticeship levy) for training.  Apprentice teachers will have to meet the same statutory requirements for entry as all other ITT programmes and will be assessed against the Teachers’ Standards. The apprenticeship route combines paid work with on and off-the-job training. QTS will be awarded to successful apprentices after three terms. In their fourth term i.e. first term of the qualified teaching year teaching apprentices will undergo an ‘end point assessment’ by an independent assessor and, if successful, will then be deemed to have completed their apprenticeship training.
